Armadillos sleep for 18.5 hours per day and they can even walk underwater.

Weird Science

The state of sleep when you dream is called the REM state. REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement, a physical reaction that really occurs when you dream. When you enter the REM state, your body is virtually paralyzed. During the REM state, the body releases chemicals into the blood stream that causes the brain to send a message to the nervous system telling it to shut down all operations. Scientists think that the reason for this is so that the body cannot act out things that are happening in the dream.
